Having a French mother meant that John's first language was French. In his early years, he had some trouble in school, racking up the most detentions ever given to a sixth grader. He was thought to be "a little slow," but in fact he was dyslexic. However, his learning disability did not keep him from becoming interested in Shakespeare. one day his father overheard him reciting his lines, and, at that moment, he knew John was destined to become an actor.
John attended Kent State University during the tempestuous times, and there he worked in the Theatre Department. He received a scholarship to Julliard in New York, and later went to England to study Shakespeare.
John is married to actress/singer Marnie Mosiman who also appeared in an episode of Star Trek: "Loud as a Whisper." They have two boys, Keegan and Owen, and live in Southern California. John enjoys reading, sailing and teaching, but most of all he likes spending time with his family. The de Lancie family sailed with us.
